If I have to choose a favorite neighborhood in Amsterdam, it would be De Negen Straatjes or ‘The Nine Streets’ (which is kinda cheating because it’s not just one but nine streets altogether). It’s a quaint and quirky neighborhood that got everything you need: picturesque cobbled streets connecting Amsterdam’s grand canal (the classic picture that will look awesome on your instagram), hip(ster) cafes (again, for your instagram), and my favorite: all the vintage stores! There are a few stores that’s been my go-to for years but I’m going to write about my favorite two shops here.

Juffrouw Splinter

Prinsengracht 230, 1016 HE Amsterdam
A quaint little shop that exudes antique cuteness and triggers lots of “Aww,” with a wide variety of items such as coat hooks, doorknobs, vases, soaps, tea cups, dinner plates, and many more decorative odds and ends.

Wolvenstraat 7, 1016 EM Amsterdam
One just simply can’t and won’t walk past this shop without going in (and buying a gorgeous beaded purse or a 20’s flapper dress). Impressive collection of curated formal wears and accessories from different decades for serious vintage lovers, with a really reasonable price. This is where I got most of my party purses.

Favorite place to stay :

Hotel de Paris Marnixstraat 372, 1016 XX Amsterdam

For all the sentimental feelings, since 2008 this has been my always go-to three stars, budget friendly hotel, wayyy before I discovered AirBnB. It’s within walking distance to the bustling Leidseplein and Vondelpark and also bus / tram stop is right in front of the hotel. Free wifi access and staff are super friendly. Also the location for an old favorite editorial I shot for Harper’s and most of my hotel testshoot.

To get to the 9 Streets, take tram 1, 2, 5 from Amsterdam Centraal Station.
