Takayama (高山) is a photogenic old town in the mountainous Hida region in northern Gifu that makes you travel back in time and definitely want to stroll around wearing a kimono… stat! This town has been beautifully preserved and the present layout dates from the 17th century Edo Period. We walked around the Meiji-era inns, museums, sake breweries, hillside shrines and temples with a pretty riverside setting, and naturally stuffing our face with the most delicious, melt-in-your-mouth hida beef sushi ever.
